Great Alaskan Art, with a mythic twist
Tara Cox
Tara Cox is an Alaskan artist born and raised in Anchorage. Her work is the result of multiple years of professional training, including a B.F.A. in painting, and daily artistic practice. Her goal is to produce a series of portals to mystical sanctuaries, combining the already magical landscapes of Alaska with bigger-than-life wildlife. Her work is a distillation of the influences of her life; Alaska and its magnificence, animals, mythology, fairytales, Eighties and Nineties animation, Renaissance art, and a touch of surrealism and humor. Her work is designed to draw you into a lush, joyful world where you can allow your imagination to play. To be like Alice, following each sparkle down the rabbit hole to another wonderful realm.
Our Story
It all started in 2020 with a digital doodle and a painting. The subject? An odd creature called "Butterbear". Friends and family agreed it looked pretty cool, perhaps even "Mythic". A suspicion began to form that tourists and locals alike would pay to have a copy in sticker or hoodie form. New creatures soon followed, including a "Moosicorn" and a skateboarding otter named "Ollie". The artist felt good about her creations and said, "let's do this thing", and that is how Mythic Alaska, LLC was born.
Our mission
Simply put, our mission is to explore every part of Alaska, in search of beautiful, "Mythic", scenes that Tara can capture for her customers to enjoy. It's a big state so we will probably be at it for a while.
